CONVERGE X NORWICH ARTS CENTRE Performance Event

Witness performances by CONVERGE artists Phill V Williams, Chrissy Ralph, Dandy Darling, Marco Yuen with Rob McLean, Marie-Gabrielle Rotie and Bonnie Bakeneko unfold simultaneously over a two-hour duration across unusual and behind-the-scenes spaces at the Arts Centre. Supported by the space – a church turned art centre with decades of artistic lore and legend – the artists will generate an insistent and striking convergence energy that audiences can absorb and take with them beyond the NAC walls. Expect bold images rich with colour, intimate acts of care, shamanic confessionals, and stunning costume changes.

“The artists come from a range of disciplines and performance lineages: Marie-Gabrielle is a world renowned Butoh expert and choreographer, Dandy is an award-winning drag king, Chrissy, Marco, Phill and Bonnie are performance art powerhouses of Norfolk and Suffolk who have made work across the country, each with their own ultra-specific flavour.

Performance art is the most liberating and affecting form of art that I’ve ever encountered, both as a practitioner and as an audience member. You shed shame and expectation, and temporarily inhabit a parallel universe in which social rules can be rewritten and new selves inhabited. You get to see and do things in performance art that you’d never see anywhere else. Isn’t it exciting to explore what human bodies can do, what energies they can generate in space, and how they can relate to each other?
