Dulce Duca: Don’t Stand Up

Sun 27 Sep 2026

Don’t Stand Up is a metaphor of Maria’s life in the shape of a stand-up comedy show that goes completely wrong.

Maria is a Portuguese humidity officer at Humido Regulado. She decides she needs to engage more with the English community and stand-up seems like a perfect start.

This is her first time on a stage. She has her notes, her water, her stool. She is ready.

This absurd comedy weaves physical theatre and object manipulation with experimental sound design, where everything on stage is alive, reactive, and largely uncooperative.

Don’t Stand Up is sixty minutes of chaos, laughter, and one woman who refuses to leave the stage. Whether the audience does the same is entirely up to them.

Coming up at NAC

A person stands centered on a dimly lit stage, illuminated by a circular spotlight. They are wearing a light purple suit with a name tag on the chest and are positioned in front of a plain desk and chair. The background features a large projected close-up image of a person's lips in soft blue tones, filling the wall behind them. The overall lighting is cool and theatrical, creating a minimalist performance setting.
