We caught up with Amy to chat about her upcoming event ZWA, a weekend of music and spoken word…

Hi Amy, can you give us some background to yourself and your work?

I started life in London but was raised here in Norfolk. I love community, love audio, love storytelling… I’ve been fortunate enough to shape my work in the areas I love.

Tell us a bit about your new production project innate creates?

Innate creates works to build and grow a more inclusive cultural space with projects that engage, uplift and inspire whilst stretching possibilities.

Why did you choose to set up this project?

It’s a positive way for me to creatively shape the world I want to live in and build the rooms I want to be in.

Tell us about your weekend event Zwa?

Zwa is a series of music and poetry events across one weekend and two venues. We’ve got some incredible artists from London and Manchester joining some of our own brilliant local artists. Whether it’s jazz, spoken word, hip hop or drum & bass that you’re into, we’ve got you covered.

Friday 3rd October OneDa headlining at Voodoo Daddy’s Showroom, Saturday 4th October Zola Marcelle headlining at Norwich Arts Centre and Sunday 5th October Victoria Adukwei Bulley headlining also at Norwich Arts Centre.

What do you most enjoy about curating / producing events like this?

Bringing excellent artistry, excellent people and excellent energy all into one room. Building spaces where people leave feeling energised and inspired.

What can people expect from the weekend?

Vibes, vibes, vibesssssss

What’s next for innate creates?

Black Futures in mid October… a staple event of ours which brings people together with records, food and ideas. Head to @innatecreates_ for more details – see you there!

Work aside, what do you like to do in Norfolk on a day off?

Head to a gig, hang out with friends, chips on the beach, long walks in the green… all the lush things!

What’s the best thing about living in Norwich / Norfolk?

Collaboration… Norfolk really understands that everything takes a village.

10 Quick Qs:

Where did you grow up, and where do you live now?

NR4, then Hethersett, then left for a decade, now NR3

Who is your biggest influence and why?

Too many to mention! The core ingredients are always the same though… integrity, imagination, dedication.

What makes your work stand out from other creatives?

That empathy and care is at the core of all my work.

What makes you happy?

Music, dancing, tasty food, travel, adventures, sunshine, calmbenergy, warmth (like, proper warmth though!), tummy lols

What makes you sad?

Lots… sadly

What film, TV show, book or podcast have you recently enjoyed?

I read Natasha Brown’s ‘Assembly’ about 6 months ago and couldn’t put it down – brilliant internal world building, and so simply too. Still rolling it in mind.

If you could only own one musical album, what would it be?

Impossible question! But if I had to commit… Stevie Wonder’s Songs In The Key of Life. My mum played it to me when I was in her tummy so it’s held me my whole being

What would your super power be?

To be fluent in every language
