What is a poem and how do you make one? Poetry writing sessions with Helen Ivory

If you have written poems before or have never written yet have always wanted to; if you write already and want to pep up your language – these inspiring sessions are for you! We will read some poems, talk about how they work, and then write some of our own.  These open sessions offer the time to experiment with language and a variety of poetic devices such as imagery, metaphor, how poems look on the page and how they sound.

These sessions will be run by published poet and experienced Adult Education tutor Helen Ivory.

Helen Ivory is a poet and visual artist who makes collage and shadowboxes. She was awarded a Cholmondeley Award by the Society of Authors in 2024. She edits the webzine IS&T and teaches for Arvon.
