NFWH Community Quilt Day of Action

Saturday 18 November | 1pm-3pm | drop-in | free entry

Join us for our Norwich For Warm Homes Day of Action event!

On Saturday 18th November, 1-3pm at Norwich Arts Centre, we will be joining others around the country to galvanise support for the United For Warm Homes campaign demands.

We will be combining crafting with activism (craftivism) to create a community quilt. We are asking each of our pledgers and supporters to create a 15cm x 15cm quilt square (or more if you would like!) which we will then come together on 18th November to assemble into our blanket patchwork community quilt.

We will also have materials available on the day for you to create your square to add to the community quilt.

Don’t worry if quilting isn’t for you as the quilt squares do not need to be traditionally made and we encourage the use of fabric glue and/or fabric pens to decorate your material square! Each square will represent why we want warm homes that don’t cost the earth and remember to include your group’s name/logo if you wish to. The completed quilt will also be displayed at The Forum’s ‘Norfolk’s Makers Festival’ in April next year!

We are also hoping to be joined by local Norwich MPs and Parliamentary Candidates to discuss the NFWH campaign and hand over our petition (which, if you are a Norwich resident, can be signed here: Ask Norwich’s MPs to Take Action for Warm Homes (actionnetwork.org) ).

Norwich Friends of the Earth is working with Green New Deal Norwich to bring together local community groups to pledge to work together towards our campaign; Norwich for Warm Homes. We are focussing the community work in the Silver Road area (NR3) although we’d like to get wider groups from across Norwich involved.

Here in Norwich, soaring gas prices and cold, heat-leaking homes mean too many of us will struggle to keep our homes warm and pay our bills. Our energy system has failed us. But we have solutions to fix it. We are calling for local organisations, community groups and campaigners to come together to demand:

Urgent additional financial support to keep people warm
A government-funded programme to insulate our homes
Transformation of our failed energy system to work for people and planet, not profit.
United, we will win the fight for warm homes that don’t cost the Earth.
