The 50th Anniversary Of Punk In The East
The 50th Anniversary of Punk In The East
Steve Ignorant Band performs CRASS + Red Flag 77
Norwich is getting ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the start of Punk Rock with a huge exhibition of early punk memorabilia, plus an exciting gig too.
Punk In The East, one of the UK’s largest online catalogues of original punk history, is putting together an exhibition of original photography, clothing and ephemera from the Eastern Counties that has ever been seen in one place before.
Highlights include the actual poster from Norwich’s first ever punk gig in 1976, the original Sex Pistols advert from the University of East Anglia (UEA) that very same year and a series of stunning street and gig photography from right accross the region including previously unseen images from Norwich , Cambridge and West Runton too.
Taking to the stage on the night will be The Steve Ignorant Band, performing songs by Crass in celebration of five decades of punk.
Crass played twice in Norwich back in the day. Once an outright riotous gig at the UEA Barn in the late 1970s and one at the much-loved Gala Ballroom, a short while later.
Support on the night comes from Ipswich-based punk band Red Flag 77.
Additional music on the night will come from well known local DJ’s playing track after track of original punk rarities and some well-seasoned classics too.
This show will also be a reunion of many old faces from across the region, with many meeting up for the first time in well over 40 years.
