Green Shoots presents Rewilding Politics and Saving Species with Ben Goldsmith & Hannah Bourne-Taylor

In Conversation with Patrick Barkham

NAC patron and natural history writer for the Guardian Patrick Barkham will be hosting this conversation with rewilding advocate Ben Goldsmith and bird conservationist Hannah Bourne-Taylor.

How can we save species, revive green spaces and create a healthier, wildlife-rich country for everyone? Join two of Britain’s leading environmentalists in conversation for an inspiring and practical night of real-world rewilding!

Hannah Bourne-Taylor has led an against-all-odds campaign to make swift bricks compulsory for all new homes – not only saving the declining swift but hole-nesting birds including sparrows, starlings and house martins. She’s had great success – Scotland has adopted swift bricks – but also met with opposition from all corners of Westminster.

Ben Goldsmith is the most influential environmentalist you may never have heard of – he’s supported the reintroduction of beavers across the land, is rewilding his own Somerset farm and has been a key figure behind-the-scenes in persuading successive governments to support nature-friendly measures.

Both Hannah and Ben are eloquent, passionate speakers who will bring their great love of nature to the stage in Norwich – for an event packed with practical and spiritual ideas for rewilding our souls, cities and countryside.

Ben Goldsmith

Goldsmith’s journey toward environmental advocacy is personal and visionary. In the wake of profound loss, he turned to nature as a source of healing and renewal, finding purpose in helping landscapes recover their wildness. Today, through initiatives such as Nattergal and the Conservation Collective—a global network of locally rooted environmental foundations—he works to restore natural processes, reimagine how humans coexist with the land, and shift how we value the living world.

Described as “one of the most passionate champions of rewilding,” Goldsmith—who is also the host of podcast Rewilding the World with Ben Goldsmith, calls for a deeper humility before nature’s complexity, arguing that our role is not to manage or control, but to make space for life to return on its own terms.

Hannah Bourne-Taylor

Hannah Bourne-Taylor’s life revolves around birds. Dubbed a ‘voice for nature’, Hannah is a bird conservationist, an award winning campaigner and author of two books (Fledgling and Nature Needs You – The Fight To Save Our Swifts). Hannah is known for walking naked through London (twice) as part of her swift brick campaign, and sucessfully reintergrating birds of all kinds back into the wild including one finch who she raised in her hair for three months.
