Samia Malik Company UK Tour and Album Launch 2019

‘A singer of extraordinary power and Joan Baez-like eloquence’ Geeta Doctor The Hindu

‘Iconic songs to heal and empower’ Amrit Wilson Outline

Fresh from an acclaimed sold out tour of the States, Samia returns to tour the UK with an electrifying new collaboration with her new show in Samia Malik Company.

‘From the first note of the first number there was astonishment and rapt attention. There was a real sense of seeing something never tried before. Experts talk of “fusion”…but no-one’s seen fusion like this’ Janet Trewin – Norwich Future Radio

Samia Malik Company’s ’compelling and powerful’ original songs in Urdu and English are accompanied by internationally respected Italian guitarist Guiliano Modarelli, ‘exceptional and versatile’ multi instrumentalist Sianed Jones (on violin, keyboards and bass guitar) and renowned tabla maestro Sukhdeep Dhanjal. This exciting new show is truly music of the world, rooted in Ghazal and Indian classical music and fused with flashes of Arabic, Bhangra, Flamenco, Latin, World Folk, Bollywood, Eastern European, jazz and unparalleled improvisation to create a thrillingly ‘new genre’.

Born in Saudi Arabia to Pakistani parents, Samia Malik has lived in the UK since she was a child. She writes and performs songs in Urdu and English based on traditional Urdu Ghazal (a highly refined union of poetry with music) extending and subverting the form to explore contemporary issues around identity, race and gender. Samia is also a visual artist: her live shows are supported by translations and projections of her original visual art. She has collaborated with acclaimed world-class artists including celebrated Indian danseuse and activist Mallika Sarabhai and ‘sitarist to the stars’ Baluji Shrivastav OBE: Samia’s dynamic, evolving work has thrilled international audiences across Europe, India and the States.

‘In a world where we are becoming more attuned to divisions, Samia’s work in fact celebrates difference, individualism and originality’ Aisha Farooq – DESIblitz

Please note that this event is not a performance of Colours of her Heart as stated in some publications.
