Some of the area’s finest poets come together for a unique night of worldwide readings in solidarity with the Palestinian poet Ashraf Fayadh, who has been sentenced to death by the Saudi Arabian authorities.
They are responding to a call from the international literature festival Berlin for all individuals,institutions, schools and media outlets that care about justice and freedom to participate in a worldwide reading of selected poems and other texts on 14 January in support of Ashaf Fayadh.
Ashraf Fayadh, a 35 year old Palestinian poet and art curator who lives in Saudi Arabia, has been sentenced to death by a Saudi court for the “crime” of apostasy. Fayadh also stands accused of blaspheming and promoting atheism through his collection of poetry, Instructions Within, published in 2008
Poets confirmed include George Szirtes, Moniza Alvi, Martin Figura, Helen Ivory, Andrea Holland, Tiffany Atkinson, Andy Bennett, Joanna Guthrie and Russell J Turner – with more being added on a daily basis. Please come and support what will be an extraordinary and unforgettable evening of poetry.
