The brutal attack by government forces on a peaceful demonstration in St Peter’s Field Manchester, becomes known as the Peterloo Massacre, the carnage evoking the Battle of Waterloo. ‘Peterloo’ tells of poor mill workers, hot-headed radicals, moderate reformers, weak magistrates, brutal police and military, a repressive government, decadent royalty and devious spies.
