Formed in Canterbury UK in 1968, they rose to success in the 1970s as a part of the Canterbury scene, blending psychedelic rock and jazz to create a distinctive sound like their contemporaries Soft Machine.

The band became the first British band to sign to the US record label Verve. After Verves disposal of their rock & pop division Caravan moved to Decca records.

Caravan’s best-known recording is the 1971 set In the Land of Grey and Pink, their second album for Decca. Thirty years after its release this album finally received a platinum disc for sales of over one million units.

They had considerable success in Continental Europe – particularly in France, the Netherlands and Germany where they played some of those countries’ most prestigious venues and enjoyed healthy record sales.
A loyal following has meant that their back catalogue sales are very healthy, and most importantly they sell out when ever they tour.

The band today is: original member Pye Hastings (lead vocal/guitar) and the musical genius of Geoffrey Richardson (violin, guitar, spoons etc), Jan Schelhass (keyboards), Jim Leverton (bass) and Mark Walker (drums)
