Exhibiting at the Norwich Arts Centre ‘The Place in Between’ is a new body of work by photographer Andi Sapey. The series explores themes of journeys and a sense of place within the landscapes of four different countries; Japan, Iceland, Greece and the UK. Whilst a departure from his commissioned editorial portraits, for which he is more commonly known, the work is a personal response to the journeys he has taken and landscapes he has visited over the last six years.
“In this fast paced society we seem to concentrate so much on the destination that we often miss the actual journey and the spaces in between. By slowing down and spending time in these places I wanted to throw focus on the often over looked or ignored landscapes that are equally, if not more, fascinating and memorable. Having an understanding of the landscapes is really important to me and to the creation of this work. The concept of journeys is echoed in each image with roads, pathways or tracks made by humans or animals featuring in each of the photos taken in the series”.
Andi has been working as an editorial and commercial photographer for the last thirteen years and his photography explores ideas around working life, travel, education, the arts and music. His work has a strong narrative element, which he uses to help clients tell their story. Alongside his commercial work Andi works as an Associate Lecturer on the BA(hons) Photography at Norwich University of the Arts.
