Ideal Surreal is delighted to present Birds of Hell + Bag of Cans + The Glitter Shop
We at Ideal Surreal are delighted to present an evening of musical entertainment at Norwich’s premier venue Norwich Arts Centre. Its the third of our ‘The Scene Strikes Back’ celebration and features three of the best East Anglian acts.
Headlining are local veterans Birds of Hell who make a welcome return to a Ideal Surreal stage. These indie-alt-popsters resonate from the fantastic Norwich Electro scene which includes local heavy-weights Sink Ya Teeth and their critically acclaimed contemporaries Let’s Eat Grandma.
Bird of Hell live up to Norfolk’s reputation as odd and unsettling through electro pop songs about dogging, kidnap and being eaten by snakes. They’ve received countless recommendations including regular plays on Radio 1, 6 Music and from The 405, who describe their single ‘Astronomy Programmes’ as ”A kind of bliss, like part of a Summer morning when it’s cold enough for a jumper but you can feel the sun’s warmth starting to break through”. Birds of Hell are certainly our favourite hug in a mug.
Supporting are Bag of Cans who are one of the fantastic Norwich bands to hit the scene during the past few years. They play lo-fi punk rock with a hint of the blues, which has been described as English humour mixed with chaotic 20-something angst. Think Blur plus Kinks, with a healthy does of Libertines, at a 1970s basement new wave party.
Opening are The Glitter Shop, who are a Bury St Edmunds band we’re admired for some time. The group have been described as a grunge band but we think they perform some of the best psych-pop indie we’ve heard. Their singer Ruby Smith has one of the best voices about and creates some dreamy, fuzzy hooks.
