Neil performs a wry, poignant, humorous and topical one-man show, spiced with anecdotes of his life and times in the worlds of media and show business. Neil is best known for his collaborative work with Monty Python, The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and The Rutles while his TV shows for BBC2, The Innes Book of Records have become cult classics. Neil’s solo shows tickle the emotions with a potent mix of fine musicianship and enlightened lyricism, packed with sharp observations celebrating the absurdities of modern existence.
He recently teamed up with Ade Edmundson, Phil Jupitus and Roland Rivron to form the Idiot Bastard Band, playing to small but perfectly formed and hugely enthusiastic audiences at the Wilmington in Islington and the Water Rats in Kings Cross.
Now Neil is bringing his unique brand of musical brilliance to his solo show, which tours the UK through spring and autumn.
Difficult to describe – it has to be experienced. Go see it.
In his own words, “flawless sincerity, powerful drama, award-winning comedy and a sweet ukulele marmalade, flesh out an entirely honest but otherwise unpretentious musical bouquet, with a robust hint of vanilla and a lingering aftertaste of red currants. Good with children and animals…if I could describe what it is I do on stage in a sentence or two, or even a cleverly constructed paragraph, then there would be absolutely no need for me to go on stage and do it.”
