After the success of Uke East 2017, the Ukulele festival is returning to Norwich in 2018 for it’s fifth year on 21st to 23rd September. The festival attracts visitors from all over the UK and presents some of the top Ukulele performers from around the country. This year, the festival is “going international” with acts from Italy and Germany.
The 2018 headliners are the extremely popular Dead Mans Uke with support from Phil Doleman and Ian Emmerson, Ukulolo, the Ukulele Evangelists and Tricity Vogue. 2018 sees the return of Desmond O’Connor as MC for the main concert.
New for Uke East 2018 is a Saturday morning children’s concert. This is will feature performances, new chords, learning songs and other entertainments. Committee member Tim Colman said “we’re really excited to be able to bring the ukulele to an ever widening audience”.
Following the format of previous years, the weekend starts on the Friday night with an open mic and strum-along session, Saturday afternoon has performances in the Regency Plaza Ballroom – ably hosted again by Aubrey and Zelda – and the main event is on Saturday night at the Norwich Arts Centre. On Sunday morning there will be a big busk for charity on the streets of Norwich.
