Townley and Bradby with Earlham Early Years Centre
Monday 26th September – Sat 1st October 2016 Monday – Friday 1pm – 5pm, and Saturdays 10am – 6pm.
Drawing In and Drawing Out is a collaborative exhibition documenting an eight-week outdoor drawing project, led by artist collaboration Townley and Bradby. Earlham Early Years Centre has an
extensive garden that gives rich opportunities for multi-sensory experiences. All of the drawing took place outdoors in this garden, in sunshine, in wind, and in rain. The artists, Centre staff and children explored a range of drawing materials including charcoal, rope, paint, sand, clay and rubber strips cut from old truck tyres. They explored drawing on different surfaces: on paper mounted on an
easels, on the ground, on heavy paper wrapped round a tree trunk, and using child-sized brooms they drew with paint pigment onto bed sheets.
Following the existing practice of Earlham Early Years Centre staff, Drawing In and Drawing Out used a child-centred approach. When the drawing activities suggested new games and
explorations, the children were encouraged to develop these.
Steph Harding, headteacher of Earlham Early Years Centre, said of this project ‘It is very important to be open to new ideas and perspectives from other professionals, particularly those with creative skills.’
Drawing In and Drawing Out was generously supported by Norfolk County Council, Anguishes Educational Foundation (part of Norwich Charitable Trusts), and Paul Bassham Charitable Trust.
