The Undercroft, under the war memorial: entrance on Gaol Hill
‘If there was a Turner Prize for dance, Darren Johnston would undoubtedly be on the shortlist’ – The Times
‘As much installation as dance.. a striking mix of optical illusion, movement and architecture’ – The Independent
Following a 3 month artist in residency in Japan and a recent residency at The Barbican Centre, award winning multi disciplinary artist and Choreographer Darren Johnston takes up residency in Norwich to develop a new site installation for the The Undercroft space.
Enter a long tunnel of light which takes you deep into the Undercroft where audience members will be met with a meditative light installation made of haze, shards of light and immersive sound. The artist draws inspiration from sacred ceremonial spaces, eastern ideas of rebirth and abstract reinterpretations through digital technology.
The installation will run throughout the week and will culminate in a site specific presentation on the Friday, where the installation space comes alive for a ceremonial performance.
